@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online from the corporate / government point of view, the problem with fedi is that it's not a panopticon. There are parts of it that aren't in their index, bits they can't see. Not only are the servers distributed, the threads are distributed and they can't easily monitor and control all of it at once.

There might even be two people talking to each other without corporate or government surveillance in between!

They need a system with a big central index, for power and surveillance and control.
