The entire point of racism/nationalism/patriotism is to take people who have a serious deficit of things that they can authentically feel proud of achieving in their lives, and sell them on being proud of some larger-than-them default status they were born into.
Now they'll support you for stroking their ego which you just built for them.
Yeah, your skin colour makes you special. Oh, it's the language you speak. Unhuh. Sure. Yep. Ah, no, the actions of your dead ancestors then. Okay big brain.
