"Man!" said the Ghost, "if man you be in heart; not adamant; forbear that wicked cant until you have discovered What the surplus is, and Where it is. Will you and such as you decide what men shall live, what men shall die! It may be, that in the sight of Heaven, you are more worthless and less fit to live than millions like this poor man's child.

@PerryM@newsie.social Or, a more modern interpretation of that quote,

Yes. So perhaps, in the future, you will hold your tongue until you have discovered what the surplus population is and where it is. It may well be that, in the sight of Heaven, you are more worthless and less fit to live than MILLIONS like this poor man's child.

@EthicalProfessor@mstdn.social Dr G, I am holed up on the interpretation of morality with regard to mans laws. Life is so simple, a meal, a cot and a snuggle ... what the hell is so difficult about seeing that all is happy and satisfied!

Man's laws are almost always about keeping order, and only incidentally related to justice.

Morality is happily redefined by many religious leaders, often to the point were it is no longer recognizable. Yet at its unmanipulated heart, morality speaks to justice.

Alas, history demonstrates that far too few humans find morality compelling.
