If you use @jellyfin@mastodon.online (an excellent media server), and it is not updating when you add / scan for new files, check the logs - I found that there was an error with one file which was stopping the update.
I recreated the problematic directory (mkdir -p whatever it was) and then the problematic file (touch file name), and then I re-ran a scan. It worked. New episode alerts flooded in.
After that, I deleted the directory and re-scanned.
