I'm pretty sure both Lilac by #Katatonia and Restless Boy by #PainOfSalvation are using a sample of a floppy disk drive and I find that interesting. It is a pleasant sound. Let me know if I'm mistaken...

@Gargron@mastodon.social I used a couple of broken hard drive sounds in some of my tracks, it scratches a very specific itch.

@Gargron@mastodon.social I especially enjoy the sound of game data loading from an AMiGA floppy. Maybe it’s also about the anticipation of getting to play a great game after it’s done loading. I never owned an AMiGA myself but my neighbour and some friends of mine did.

@Gargron@mastodon.social The most pleasant / nostalgic ("IT" ) sounds for me

The start-up purr of a Syquest portable 100mb disc. I used one as my briefcase for a few years, with drives at home and work.

The family cockatiel mimicking a v32bis modem.

@Gargron@mastodon.social when do we start listening to 9600 Baud modems again? 😁😁
