(She's okay. You have to understand that after spending like a couple decades of my life studying this nazi shit, I've come to the conclusion that we are where we are, on a burning rock, surrounded by homicidal nazis, in societies wholly owned and controlled by hyper-reactionary billionaire cultists is b/c "capitalism." And there is no way out that involves "us regular people all survive" and "keep doing capitalism." So there's only so much common ground I can find with libs. Even smart ones.)

(I'm prepared to listen to anyone who hates Nazis even a tenth as much as I do. But having watched a bunch of her content, it's just kinda hard to wait around for her to figure out there is no nicer better capitalism that won't still produce all the same problems the "crony" or "runaway" capitalism she's roasting now is doing. I feel like she'll get there - but if history holds, the libs will stop talking about her immediately afterwards. So it won't be soon. I don't think.)

Also, after the past I dunno, when did 9/11 happen - every waking moment since then, in our society; I am a little jaded, a little cynical, and a little paranoid.

And part of me watches this woman who has mastered the passion, anger, and antifascist jargon of the left still exemplify so much of the reactionary liberal strain, and thinks "you know, if I were a DNC maggot that didn't want to change anything except our campaign style, I might pay someone to do a podcast like this on the sly..."

AnarchoNinaWrites
@AnarchoNinaWrites@jorts.horse

Does that MEAN anything? Absolutely not. This is me telling you directly that I have no evidence she's double dealing. But I also don't know that she isn't. And I know that if liberals ever want to win an election again they better start talking like her, Bernie Sanders, and Mamdani. And I have very little belief that this capitalist liberal establishment would want to do anything beyond talk, in that regard.

It's good that liberals are mad about nazis, but it ain't mean they're socialists.

And well, if you don't understand why that's increasingly becoming a breaking point with me - scroll back to the top of this thread.

The planet is on fire. Either fossil fuels go or a habitat that can support 8B+ people does. The rich people have made their choice, that's why they're paying to elect fascists and the govts they own are hardening borders, increasing security forces and curtailing civil rights. The very real capitalism we have now, cannot survive the death of oil. It's us, or them

AnarchoNinaWrites
@AnarchoNinaWrites@jorts.horse

Also, as a side note:

If you think there's a different capitalism, not based on oil, waiting out there for some genius to figure out and save this way of life, it's because you don't understand how a financialized economy works.

AnarchoNinaWrites
@AnarchoNinaWrites@jorts.horse

The fact is, we've "booked" more than enough fossil fuels to burn the planet to ash multiple times over. These reserves aren't even out of the ground yet, but they are transformed into a financial asset - an asset that is treated as good as if they'd actually sold the oil/gas/whatever already. This asset is then speculated on, borrowed against, traded, and utterly intertwined with the entire economy.

AnarchoNinaWrites
@AnarchoNinaWrites@jorts.horse

If tomorrow you said no more oil, all that booked oil becomes worthless, and everything pinned on it implodes. Most of the richest people in the world would be infinitely less wealthy and powerful, overnight.

Do you think they will ever willingly do that? So we can switch to your "not oil" version of capitalism? Willingly? No right? Now let me remind you:

They own everything, they are buying whole governments and their armies, they are installing fascists and building police states

Guess why?

AnarchoNinaWrites
@AnarchoNinaWrites@jorts.horse

So no, there is no other capitalism besides fossil fuel capitalism because the capitalists themselves will die before they allow that to happen.

Which btw? Might not be such a bad idea, given that even if they fail (and they will fail) it will likely kill billions.

AnarchoNinaWrites
@AnarchoNinaWrites@jorts.horse

PS btw - if you ever sat around asking yourself why fascists and other assorted reactionaries are so committed to climate science denial, this is the deeper layer beyond "well money, duh" that answers that question.

You see, it's not just enough that they force society to continue to burn fossil fuels. For those reserve-based assets to maintain value, the market/investors must assume that we WILL DEFINITELY burn all that oil at some later point.
