You know, I'm still a bit mad about the picture they put on my Wikipedia article. Back at FOSDEM 2023, some guy walks up to me, asks if he can take a picture. I've been taking selfies with folks all day so I say yes. People are happy to meet me and I don't mind. He takes the picture and leaves. Then months later I find out that blurry, low light, bad hair, bad composition picture is how I will be remembered in the world's most popular encyclopedia.

Also a) siehst Du definitiv gut aus auf dem Wikipedia-Foto. (Grishka auch.)

b) Hinter einer gewissen, kΓΌnstlerisch gut begrΓΌndbaren, UnschΓ€rfe wΓΌrde eine erste etwaige Augenfalte unsichtbar.

c) Ist dennoch irgendeine Aussage nicht ganz korrekt; Du schreibst von der FOSDEM 2023, aber in der Bildbeschreibung unter dem Wikipedia-Foto heißt es: "Eugen and Grishka at the Mastodon booth at FOSDEM 2024". (Abgerufen 29.12.2025, 14:22 Uhr)

FOSDEM 2023 oder 2024? Das ist hier die Frage.
:)
Gesundes, friedliches 2026 wΓΌnsche ich.

@Gargron@mastodon.social Actually #Grokipedia has an article on Eugen Rochko. If you look into the html source, you will find that once grpkipedia supports images it will likely use the same foto as wikipedia.

reading your post my thoughts went back to the late 1970s , early 80s when garage hook teams founded personal computing.
Questioning "bill gates garage" against images through the web delivered blurry, low lightened and live composed results of them two. Not that bad.,ain't it?

@Gargron@mastodon.social Haven't read all the comments so probably dozens of people have already offered. I'm a (very small time) Wikipedian, so could edit that if you want to send along a better pic.

Every driver's license I've ever had makes me deeply sympathise

@Gargron@mastodon.social there are some articles about how awful photos on Wikipedia are, because they need to put photos without copyright, normally they are from random events. Celebrities are particularly affected by this, it's kind of funny.

@Gargron@mastodon.social It could be a lot worse imho. And you could provide another picture, should you wish to.

Well the great thing about Wikipedia is that actually you can change that picture!
You know how it works, I guess ;)
