I've finally switched to the @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net browser. I've been using Firefox for as long as I've been on the internet, but the focus on AI means it's no longer the browser for me. Thankfully unlike Chrome, Vivaldi supports the uBlock Origin extension which is the most important extension for being able to browse the web nowadays.
@Gargron@mastodon.social And unfortunately, unlike Firefox, there are major screen reader accessibility problems. I'd really love to switch to it, or something like it, but that makes it hard.
@Gargron@mastodon.social Not sure how anyone can feel comfortable trusting a chromium-based browser :(
@Gargron@mastodon.social @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net I tried vivaldi but it's laggy on Fedora, I don't know, don't really care about browser animations. I care more about usability and UX.
@Gargron@mastodon.social @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net what about fennec from f-droid guys?
@Gargron@mastodon.social @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net Welcome to the resistance
(BTW for me Vivaldi synchs bookmarks, open tabs, notes, reading list etc flawlessly between multiple mobile/pad/ desktop instances)
@Gargron@mastodon.social @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net I've also been a long time FF user, but started also using Vivaldi a few months ago as FF started enshittifying. I do worry that Google will block uBlock from working/being installed. Not sure if Vivaldi can prevent this. Hopefully @servo@floss.social will eventually become a viable alternative.
@Gargron@mastodon.social @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net What does uBlock Origin do that the Vivaldi built end blocker does not do?
@Gargron@mastodon.social Yesterday I switched to LibreWolf after DECADES using Firefox, even in its darkest days (before the Quantum update). I was considering the switch for months, but the full AI embrace of the new Mozilla CEO has been the tipping point.
@Gargron@mastodon.social
Quick recommendation for @librewolf@chaos.social . All the FF goodness, minus the AI and tracking crap. :)
@Gargron@mastodon.social @Vivaldi@social.vivaldi.net how long till chromiom chore absolutely gets in the way of the likes of Vivaldi threading around manifest 3?
Use waterfox or librefox instead. That way you wouldn't contribute to the chromium monopoly that is the fault of all this.
