The older I get, the more my politics mature from childish, naïve beliefs like "the world is complicated and leaders have to make hard decisions" to more serious, adult principles like "hurting people is bad and helping people is good."

The older I get, the clearer I perceive what people really say.
I no longer hear: "The world is complicated, and leaders have to make hard decisions."
I hear: "I'm childish, I'm selfish, I'm overwhelmed with the situation. All I wanted was your attention."

And I understand that it's a request for parental care. Not for a lollipop, but for a guiding hand. Doing good is on me. I was meant as leader. "Shh, shh, little one. Step aside. I shall manage for you."
