With an inspection, I confirm is a normal pc, with an intel board, an intel atom 330 cpu, 1gb of ram and 2gb of ssd in a very funny form factor.
The bios battery was flat, so no bios password, but for the first time I saw a password protected grub!
The system boot into a custom Linux distro, PelcoLinux 3, that is a modified version of Fedora 9.
With no bios password, I booted a live distro and clean the root password from the original disk (after cloning it) and boom, Iβm in π
.
My plan: install Xorg and alsa and play (doom) Cave Story ( https://www.cavestory.org/ ).
Problem, the repo for Fedora 9 use https, and the thing cannot use it.
So I downloaded the wole i386 repo for Fedora 9 in another machine and serve it in plain http!
And it work!
Almost work, because trying to install xorg cause some dependency error with the system.
But I can install debootstrap and download debian lenny (oooooold) and chroot into it!
And I did it!
Install some packages, install xorg, install alsa aaaand the audio wont work. Alsa mixer didnβt see the intel hdaudio, even if the kernel module is loaded!
Another problem is that in x I cannot open a terminal because the chroot cannot create another pty.
Problems for another day, now I want to play.
I downloded the executable, and it work!
Can I just install a normal Linux distro or donβt buy strange piece of hw? Yes, but where is the fun?
