At 3,800 metres in the French Alps, eight experienced workers are replacing a 70-year-old footbridge at the summit of Aiguille du Midi, Mont Blanc. The 16-metre steel structure, delivered by helicopter, weighs over two tons and was installed in temperatures of around –20°C with winds of 20 km/h. The operation, requiring four months of preparation, took just one hour to complete, and the new bridge is designed to withstand winds up to 254 km/h.
