The more time passes, the more aggressive #YouTube gets with third party clients (see @FreeTube@fosstodon.org having to make new workarounds every month or so and see the dozens of dead @invidious@social.tchncs.de / Piped instances) and downloaders. As a viewer, it's probably best to start archiving channels you care about offline. As a YouTuber, it's probably best to start mirroring your videos elsewhere, like on @peertube@framapiaf.org and Odysee.

@gianmarcogg03@mastodon.uno I really hope that thoughout 2026 the Fediverse is shown off a lot more along with people in general just start using these platforms more as they are a great safe alternative to social media.

@sam@break3.social what would start a (slow) snowball effect would be big youtubers/streamers/whatever starting to use such stuff as a fallback in case their main platform gives them the boot, while actively telling their viewers to also follow them on the alternatives.

@gianmarcogg03@mastodon.uno That would be a great help yes, It's something that I've been hoping that PewDiePie would do as he's been going down the self-hosting & linux rabbit holes, so it's only a matter of time till he finds our little corner of the internet.

It'll probably only take a few big players to have others follow just getting the first few to do it especially as there's no financial gain (Other than Donations) to really push them over.
