We have to be purposeful about ending the use of fossil fuels because they’re not going to end themselves anytime soon. While wind and solar are cheaper, they are not as profitable. Therein lies the problem.

The same people who are destroying western democracies are killing the biosphere, for the same reasons. This is the consequence of chucking pallet after pallet of money at petro-dictatorships for the last half-century.
We collectively refused to ask what happens with the sovereign wealth levels of money given away for stuff in the ground. Did we think it would not get used? What else were the autokrats going to buy with several years of GDP sitting in their own sovereign wealth coffers? Coffee? Bus tickets?
Our economic wellbeing belongs to a cabal of fundamentalist autokrats in the Middle East and they are remaking our society in their image.
