I don't agree with Miessler on everything, but when he's concerned, I pay attention.

@mttaggart@infosec.exchange @RalphBassfeld@swiss.social The more AI screws up, the more likely businesses are to start rejecting it. And it seems to screw up a lot.

His forecasting is predicated on genAI replacing knowledge workers in large numbers. Remember that in order for that to happen, it isn't required that the output is actually good, only that the managers/CEOs think it's good enough. In the fullness of time, they may be proven wrong, but that doesn't change the immediate harms of the decisions.

@mttaggart@infosec.exchange it doesn’t even have to be AGI, plenty of Bullshit Jobs could/should be replaced by AI. We’ve been sheltered from reality for a few decades due to some skill but mostly luck. Meanwhile, other countries have gone through real turmoil. I share the fear/dread that our expectations are anchored on amazing.

@cR0w@infosec.exchange I mean maybe? So many of these companies are so heavily leveraged, "profit" might be a strange way to even think about it.

@mttaggart@infosec.exchange @cR0w@infosec.exchange He didn't factor in that there is a deliberate plan in place by the folks pulling the strings in our Administration to tank the global economy, drive up inflation, and concentrate wealth and power to a tiny fraction of white dudes.

Also, my $ is on China making a Taiwan move by end of year.

So, aye, we're F'd, lads.

@mttaggart@infosec.exchange With all the hobbyist investors leaning on the orgs for quick profits because they invested a loan that is coming due, there's definitely some of that. But yes, it is certainly more nuanced than just traditional profits.

@cR0w@infosec.exchange @mttaggart@infosec.exchange I think part of the reason why AI continues to attract as much money as it does, is that we haven't taxed wealth heavily enough and thus there's too much money seeking investment opportunities, and that it's the modern book burning machine.

I mean, you don't have to literally burn the books if you can push a button and generate 100 or 1000 poor quality knock-offs of every book.

@hrbrmstr@mastodon.social @mttaggart@infosec.exchange We're definitely watching the CN / TW situation closely in the utility space and most of us agree with your prediction.

@hrbrmstr@mastodon.social @cR0w@infosec.exchange Could you say more about the Taiwan thing? I don't necessarily disagree, but I'd love to hear your reasoning.
