Fun times. My modem seems to be dying. I cant stream from my TV device, and any website loads slow, over a few devices. If at all.

Windows 10 bairly loads up for sign in after start up. I am guessing that the Win-spyware is having it rough with the dying modem. ..The poor dear.

If the spyware is that prevasive, from -login-, that is too much. Installing linux has moved up my list.

..after.. buying a new modem. Priorites.

I'm not gonna discourage you from installing Linux
😄😄 but it might be worth seeing whether the modem really is dying. It may be that something on your network is spamming the Internet and using up all your bandwidth; or it may be that the connection from your modem to the rest of the world is a bit marginal. (At my old house, our ADSL connection slowed down every time it rained.)

If your modem allows it, try looking at traffic stats. If you see much more traffic than you expect, try unplugging or turning off each device in turn until it calms down. If a smart lightbulb has been recruited into a botnet and is pumping out email spam at top speed, a new modem isn't going to help.

Also, if possible, see if there are lots of errors on the line. That might indicate a dying modem but might instead mean a frayed cable or water ingress somewhere.

Good luck!
