"Why would I want to wear a mask on flights when the risk of infection is low?"

Why do you wear a seatbelt on flights when the risk of being injured in turbulence is low?

It's the same principle: A small precautionary act may not change anything in any given instance, but over a large enough number of flights, both masks and seatbelts save a significant amount of adverse events. So, why not wear a mask and protect your health?

That...and flights are not low risk. Piling as many people as they can, many from different places, onto a plane for hours - many of them only irregularly handwashing or even covering their mouth when they do cough - is not low risk. Especially now, I don't know anyone who can just cancel their vacation or work trip on a whim and rebook because they have a cough.

Low risk is when we're not packing people in like sardines. Low risk is when cleaning is done frequently and thoroughly, not in an industry aiming for fast turnaround.
