@chris@mstdn.chrisalemany.ca Lets say you were just a normal resident of Alberni working in a garage, would you have gotten any alerts on phone or messages from city over radio or loudspeakers on vans about either of the Wesley Ridge (which could block the 4 to civilisation) or the new Mount Underwood which blocks road to Bamfield and evac of the China Creek area ?
Seems to me like Wesley Creek would be more in danger of cutting you off from su0plies and your only evacuation route.
Of BC feries brought one of their ships to Port Alberti, would there be anywhere for it to dock and load cars to evacuate? or would you, Ucluelet and Tofino be isolated and unable to leave ?

there has been good info available on the local radio station. If any emergency situation occured that is where most day working folks would find out aside from check local facebook groups.
Welsey Ridge fire is being held now. so it seems to no longer be a danger of getting cut off. It was only a threat to the road though, not Port Alberni itseld. We dealt with a prolonged road closure in 2023
Supplies got in through the forest service road which is now closed and on fire with the Underwood Fire.
The Underwood Fire is a much bigger threat to the town itself. We were bery lucky yeaterday. 80% of sunny days have strong inflow winds up the fjord from the ocean to Port Alberni harbour.
If we had had thst, the fire would be on top of us by now.
The main evacuation route would be toward Nanaimo though people coild go to Tofino if they were self sufficient
The forecast is not too bad and might keep the fire away long enough for rain to come on Thursday.
