NIST has done some fairly rigorous testing of facial age estimation tech with results here: https://pages.nist.gov/frvt/html/frvt_age_estimation.html
tljr the best performing algorithm is right only 60% of the time at guessing if someone is aged 13-16. The false negative and false positive rates are huge, 25% or more.
