Recent events indicate that Trump did issue an executive order in January 2025 titled "Emergency Measures to Provide Water Resources in California and Improve Disaster Response in Certain Areas."
This order directed the Army Corps of Engineers to release water from two dams in California's Central Valley.
According to reports, the amount of water released totaled approximately 2.2 billion gallons over three days.
This water flowed into the dry lakebed of Tulare Lake and flooded out the entire area.
Trump's stated reason for this action was to combat wildfires in Southern California, claiming it would provide much-needed water, but water experts and local officials contested this reasoning. They stated that the released water would not have reached the fire zones and that Southern California already had ample water reserves.
The release also drew criticism due to the short notice given to water authorities
