I don't think this person has a point, and his historical analogies are limited and weak, considering that by the 1930s the Nazis had already consolidated their power and started dismantling the Weimar Republic. In fact, one could read his historical comparisons as apt only in that Hitler took power with centrist support to "protect" Germany from the left, much like the Dems foisting of Hillary, Biden, and then Harris on us paved the way for Trump's ascension.

Would a better move been to have used Obama's political capital in 2009 to pass legislation that outlawed gerrymandering and laid out Federal rules for elections, polling places, and suppression?

Yes.

But Democrats are always about 20 years late to the fight, usually after trying to exploit the bullshit they should be fighting, so this is what we get.
