Doctorow on the bait-and-switch of self-driving car boosters:
“Making a car that can navigate a well-behaved, non-adversarial world is relatively straightforward. But demanding that the entire world behave itself [as the boosters do]? Well, that’s the hard problem of 100,000 years of civilization and ethics. A product that only works in an ideal world isn’t a viable product.”
