Æ.With all my aversion to generative “AI”, this might surprise some, but I do believe that real artificial intelligence is eventually going to be a thing.
But I don’t think it’s anywhere close, nor that the current hype tech is the way there.
Also: it’ll be horrible, for the artificial people.
Æ.Here’s why:
If there is no immaterial component to a person, no soul or whatever, then a person is the result of a material state, and can therefore be built, somehow.
And if there is, I think it’s just human hubris to believe that only our fleshy selves are capable of having one.

Yeah, it's going to raise some interesting philosophical and ethical discussions if/when we get there, and I agree that it doesn't look good for non-biological personhood. And if our choices then result in one of the dystopian futures the movies have painted, I'm not 100% convinced we didn't have it coming.
