to be entirely clear, I don't think a phd is bad or worthless or what, but the expertise gained while doing a phd is not different in quality from expertise gained any other way and using it as a shorthand for "smart" is wild. like, you're saying it's about as smart as me. which, lets be real honest here, I'm not the dumbest boy alive, but that's not the worlds toughest bar to clear.
