The last statement in this article? NO! Outright NO,

If you get in a vehicle, put on your safety belts. Never, under any circumstances, drive without them. I am still here because I wore a seatbelt.

I spent my early life off roading in BritIsh Columbia.
I know how dangerous it is. Don’t ever drive without your seatbelt. Rollovers, rock fall, washouts, hillside slumps, hillside collapses, wildlife collisions and more happen so often. Just a sudden change in weather can make the roads treacherous.

Never pretend you are safe.

@theteapixie@mstdn.ca My mum went through the windscreen in a car crash when I was seven. She survived, after 18 months in hospital. The car was booked in to have seatbelts installed the next week. I can't even back out of the driveway without putting my seatbelt on; it has been so ingrained into me.

After the police officer described to me that he found me hanging by my neck from the seatbelt (I was small), and then explained that the seatbelt actually saved me? I never drove without one.
