We've been talking about this for our imminent release, and whether to not use Spotify.

Problem is, there are people who listen to our stuff on Spotify, so do you risk taking it off and losing that possibility of them recommending to a friend who might then go and buy from Bandcamp?

The sad fact is a lot of people who love music, stream using Spotify. Many also use Amazon, Vodafone, Starbucks, NestlΓ© etc, all companies with very questionable ethics that...

It's all a bit overwhelming.

@DiBosco@mastodon.social I hear you. I have not removed my tracks from Spotify, but I have never had a paid account with their streaming service. Yes, there are so many companies with poor track records. As a musician, I am aware how much impact Spotify has had on my ability to share and be paid royalties that are due to me.
I only share articles like this to increase awareness about their poor practices and how much it affects we musicians.

@DiBosco@mastodon.social I no longer push myself to get my songs in playlists on Spotify. I used to stress myself out and fussed far too much about the stats. Now, I just send my tracks to all the streamers, but accentuate the ones with a good "track record" of paying royalties and providing good musician toolkits.
Thanks for responding and best wishes for your upcoming release!
