I can relate to this because I decided to forget about dating about 20 years ago. I had already done what Disney told me to do, with truly life-destroying, disastrous results. After a couple more tries that were fine but didn't result in a life partner, I decided I was worthy of not having to try and worthy of not having to fit a mold. It was the most freeing decision I've ever made. I'm very sorry that I was taught any differently from childhood.

@Nonya_Bidniss@infosec.exchange this feels a little bit like one of those studies that finds a thing everyone already knew. mothers dropping risky, costly men for their own safety and that of their kids is good parenting. Absent religious influence, we males would have been relegated to stud farms long ago.
I read somewhere (Graeber, maybe?) that this calculus is in foundations of matriarchal societies throughout history.
