@cR0w@infosec.exchange let me explain how OneNote works in an example.
- you write a shopping list in OneNote on your PC! How great.
- you then go to the store, phone in hand
- you open OneNote to consult your shopping list
- IT'S EMPTY
- you attempt to resync your notebooks
- "Your notebooks are out of sync." NO SHIT.
- your notebooks are now in sync again!
- this has been achieved by replacing your shopping list with the empty blob on your phone
- THIS HAS NEVER GOTTEN ANY BETTER

@rootwyrm@weird.autos I'm sure Copilot will fix that...

@cR0w@infosec.exchange Copilot is incompatible with OneNote.
Similar to how OneNote is incompatible with Word, Paint, Paint3D, any form of coherent thought, and functions conducive to life

@cR0w@infosec.exchange which, let me emphasize, IS BEYOND FUCKING INFURIATING. Because it has NEVER improved and so help me god, MS actually had a GOOD IDEA with OneNote!

They really, genuinely did!
A lightweight application where you could jot quick things, paste memes, scribble notes, and have those notes accessible across multiple devices! With simple organization, decent handwriting recognition, the ability to turn that recognition OFF, and to basically be an arbitrary scratchpad!

AND THEY FUCKED IT UP.

@rootwyrm@weird.autos I never used the handwriting feature but it worked well?

@cR0w@infosec.exchange I used it extensively before there was a desktop app. And yeah, it was actually pretty solid. Even with my terrible handwriting. I believe it got removed a while back to add insult to injury. I don't know because if I even dare to open the app on my phone, it will immediately destroy the notes I need which I wrote on my PC.

@rootwyrm@weird.autos I can see that appeal. I use my Nextcloud server and the Notes app there for phone notes and I only use OneNote on desktop since $dayjob requires Windows. I'm kind of glad I didn't get into it more since I would be in the same spot of disappointment you are.
