Consider this weaselly framing by the New York Times.

The reality: Trump is telling a blatant lie about violent crime in DC in order to justify an illegal takeover of law enforcement in the District. He is inventing a nonexistent crime wave.

So what’s this extra clause? Some “youth crime” still exists? It hasn’t been totally eradicated?

from the NY Times: “Mr. Trump has said that crime in Washington is spiraling out of control. While statistics show that violent crime in the city hit a 30-year low last year and is down another 26 percent so far this year, youth crime has been a persistent problem for city officials.”
