The U.S. military is preparing for the possible activation of the DC National Guard to be deployed to Washington, D.C., according to a U.S. official.
It’s unclear exactly how many Guardsmen might be activated, as a decision has not yet been made. There are 2,700 personnel in the D.C. National Guard.
The expectation is that if guardsmen are activated, it would be in a support role to local authorities.
