This letter reminds me of something that Pierre Berton wrote about the lead-up to the War of 1812.
Apparently the Americans tried a pamphlet campaign with a message that was supposed to persuade the other side that they would be better off if they just simply joined the United States.
It has been 25 years since I read it (Pierre Berton’s book, NOT the pamphlet!) but the pamphlet failed because it presented things from an American perspective that was not in 100% accord with the understanding of the pre-hoserian demographic north of the border.
