I am considering adding storage to my house's solar system in an attempt to counter the chicanery of my nemesis Southern California Edison.
There is a lot to consider and #homeassistant has been very helpful. with a few sensors i am able to trend generation, grid consumption, backfeed, and the demand of many loads. one surprising thing ive learned is that running our AC and the blower exceeds my current solar capacity by about 1000 watts- i get 5kw at peak of the day.
my house was built in the early 90s and is not very well insulated, so the air runs a lot. while our baseline is low (around 800 watts) and we are selling power back most of the day, once the AC kicks on, the SunnyBoy hits max output and SCE supplements the rest of nearly 12kW to get it moving and 1000 watts during the run cycle.
now i just need to find a softstart for the AC, a coupon for the new hybrid inverter and fat stack of batteries, and maybe an electrician to make sure i dont burn my house down.
i REALLY wish i had had this kind of data when we put the system in 10 years ago.
