Mutual aid is environmental justice. Many of the wasteful, disposable items that end up in landfills could be avoided if people had more help from their community. When you drop by to cook a meal, they don't have to get takeout. When you help someone buy a more expensive item that lasts, they won't have to get a cheap version that needs to be replaced constantly. When you do the dishes for a disabled friend, they don't have to eat off paper plates that week.

There are SO MANY ways that mutual aid reduces waste and increases sustainability. We can't often engage in sustainable practices when we're broke and burned out. Your help—money, labor, emotional support—doesn't just affect your direct community; it helps every living being, and generations to come.
