@lycanmatriarch@furry.engineer I have never done a Linux upgrade before and considering how most of my servers run Linux I am honestly terrified upgrading it. I wish it was as easy as windows where it's, insert iso and select keep files.

@fox@social.hostnetwork.xyz I've done a few debain based distro (mostly ubuntu and mint) upgrades for work and personal use with honestly mixed results.

Besides backing up everything including your apt package and servicr list in case of needing a total rebuild - I also chose to just start from scratch on a spare SSD when I rebuilt my server. In your case maybe cloning the drive partitions would provide extra safety?

@lycanmatriarch@furry.engineer I run everything on proxmox so getting backups is pretty easy but very slow since I don't have any ssd space for backups. In my entire system there are a total of 4,5tb of ssd storage compared to the 120tb of hard drive space. Btw how good/bad of a idea is it if I just copy the raw file of the harddrive wile it's running?

@fox@social.hostnetwork.xyz I'd ve surprised if the copy didn't error out while the VM is running - quite a bad idea

@lycanmatriarch@furry.engineer well I was copying it to my nas or over a device file on the proxmox host, both via sftp.
