Nothing kills an engineer's enthusiasm as fast as a non-technical boss overriding their expertise on a whim. How many times have I seen companies seek out people who have shown their passion in the form of open source work, only for the contract to forbid them from doing any more of that. So many companies are run entirely by marketing people who can sell something, anything even... but they understand neither the craft nor the people.
