Spent several days cleaning out a super overgrown mess of bushes. Within it a cherry plum had grown up which I wanted to save.

After cutting everything back to an elderberry bush I arranged some gnarly firewood leftovers and covered them first with bark pieces and then twigs to create a brush pile. The outside is fairly dense but under the bush the cracks between the wood pieces are accessible for critters to hide inside. The bush will eventually grow back to provide top cover.

The core of the pile, made from gnarly firewood leftovers that are too hard to split. They are stacked several layers high, to about 3 ft. Behind it are many twisted branches of an elderberry bush and some other plants.
