The Washington Post and the US media generally have a very amusing policy of explicitly and repeatedly designating every pro-Kremlin source, but nobody is cited as "pro-Ukraine" or "pro-Europe," etc, naturally.

@kevinrothrock@infosec.exchange It might not be necessary to repeat the designation every time his name is mentioned, but Markov is very close to the Kremlin and that's the main reason his comments are interesting.
In the West, serious analysts are not supposed to be toeing the government line. Maybe in the US they are now - if anybody even knows what the official line is at the moment. But if there is a clear political affiliation, it is usually stated, at least in Swedish press.

@kallekn@mastodonsweden.se It all looks pretty silly and ideological IMO. And I'm perfectly aware that Markov has govt ties.

@kevinrothrock@infosec.exchange I'm sure you are aware of his government ties, but most readers aren't, so they should be mentioned. Once.

@kallekn@mastodonsweden.se Outlets label his bias, they don't disclose his affiliation. They don't treat other sources this way. It's a double standard.

@kevinrothrock@infosec.exchange You are probably right. I don't follow US media that much, but I'll be on lookout for that kind of lables in Swedish media.

@kallekn@mastodonsweden.se It's not the end of the world, but it gives me a chuckle.

@kevinrothrock@infosec.exchange Found a long interview with Markov in the Swedish daily DN, from March. This is how he's described:

"Political scientist and analyst Markov is unwaveringly loyal to Putin. He has even served as the president's personal envoy in the past. Markov heads his own think tank, the Institute for Political Research, and is known for his aggressive statements on both Ukraine and relations with Europe."

But only once. No further lables.
