I was surprised, but also very proud and happy, to hear that my cousin (60+), who is a retired boat builder, had gotten tired of Windows and moved his personal devices to Linux. What a move! All on his own, too.

@miiko@social.darxxide.eu Every time this happens, an angel gets its wings. I will note that it is nowadays a lot easier than it used to be. Really no different than Windows <-> Apple. And of course most Windows users are already also using Android...
@martinvermeer@fediscience.org Yep. The only thing is, someone needs to actually install the OS on the computer. Changing from Win to Mac means spending money, with no manual installation.
@miiko@social.darxxide.eu True, but also that is not as hard as it seems. My go-to place for installation is a refurbished used laptop shop in Turku. They are also Microsoft certified*), which is presumably why they do this under the table and don't advertise it. There must be many, many more if only you know to ask.
