WSJ update on what Putin offered to score the Alaska summit: frozen lines in Zaporizhzhia & Kherson, but Ukraine's total withdrawal in Luhansk (almost totally lost already) & Donetsk (not lost). Europeans apparently speaking for Zelensky say this demands too much, but...

... it's actually a huge step back from Russia's previous demands. In fact, it would require Moscow to redraw the national map it adopted in Sept 2022. It also seems that Russia isn't pressing its demands for a demilitarized, neutral Ukraine, which is what the whole war is supposedly about!

If I had to guess, it seems Putin is offering terms that qualify as reasonable concessions for politicians who assume Kyiv is doomed in the war, but not terms that Zelensky and his Euro allies will accept. Could end with Trump saying he got the best deal possible, Ze rejected it, so he's on his own.
