Doesn’t make sense to install another system at the new place yet, because hopefully sale of old place funds more renovations, including a kitchen not circa 1960.

So last night on
yet another trip to Menards I wanted a $30 faucet attachment. But <borat> my wife </borat> says she wants an old timey water cooler thing. Nostalgia and cold water got me.

Thing barely fits in Jillian’s Leaf which also has us, a baby, two safes (long story), 5-gallon bucket of paint, baby’s first bike (so cute!) and other crap.

So it’s on its side which is not great because bad to tip refrigerant appliances. So no installing last night because it needs lots of hours standing up in timeout to atone for sin of horizontal.

@User47@vmst.io my leaf is quite the hauler. Should’ve named it Oak - it carries a lot.

FF today. Time to install! So I pull out the fridge to access the plug. But gasp of course the floor under the fridge (and stove) is super yuck.

C’mon, Grandpa! β€” ALSO
#RIP, miss ya. But also, c’mon dude!

So I get the vacuum, disinfectant and brush and get to work.

Done. Finally time to plug the damned thing in…

HAHAHA, in the words of Johnny Cash on Rock Island Line: β€œWell, I fooled you, I fooled you.”

Water cooler wants three prongs. This joint only has old timey 2-prong outlets. I replaced all the ones in renovated areas w/ GFCI to be up to code. But again, why bother w/ kitchen…. until now.

I could cheat and do an adapter like fridge is doing. But that’s not right.

So, ok, dig out the electrician bucket β€˜o tools, circuit tracer, and a box of GFCI I already have…

Now I have a new GFCI outlet YAY. I can nearly taste the cold pure water.

I plug the cooler in and it runs for 10 seconds and gives up. I find a paper that says oh btw this needs to be flushed w/ vinegar a few times. So do that.

But nearly everything we own is in boxes. No clue where the vinegar is. Off to the Hy-Vee for a gallon that I know we have somewhere, just don’t know where…

This thread ended up being way too long. So too was the experience.

Anyway. I did the double flush, put our one and only 4-gallon jug in pushed the nasty stove and fridge back, and I guess it is doing its thing.

Boring thread. I know. But future me will forget the annoyance and only remember the fun.

@User47@vmst.io I like real life stories. Not boring at all.
