If we want people to self-host, we should really be making self-hosting a hell of a lot easier and more approachable instead of lamenting anyone who uses Google or whatever.

"Just self-host" might as well be "just grow a second head and fly to Mars" with how hard it is for 99.99% of people.

I'd love an easy to use appliance, like a NAS, that can self host all of my data and provide a VPN so I can access my data remotely.

I do that right now but it requires me to be a SysAdmin.
