Good morning. πŸ€ πŸ€ πŸ“ΊπŸ“Ίβ˜•β˜•

9 August 2025

Did you know that Gunsmoke ran for 20 years? James Arness and Milburn Stone spent their whole careers playing the same roles. The show started in 1955 and was just one of many Westerns airing around the same time. Let's seeβ€”there was Bonanza, of course, but also The Rifleman with Chuck Connors, Have Gun – Will Travel with Richard Boone, The Rebel with Nick Adams, Wanted: Dead or Alive with Steve McQueen, and my favorite, Sugarfoot with Will Hutchins. You know, I can't remember why Sugarfoot was my favorite. You can still catch reruns of these shows, some more than others. I think during those years the Western genre was pretty much beaten to death. I still occasionally tune in, though.

β€œFast is fine, but accuracy is final.” β€”Wyatt Earp, allegedly. Probably said while polishing a revolver and squinting into the sunset.

@Swede1952@universeodon.com I watched Gunsmoke all the time when I was a kid. What a variety of characters: the illiterate deputy and his friend the alcoholic town doctor with the sheriff and his "friend" Miss Kitty who ran the saloon (and perhaps had other business interests!) I always remember the episode "Snow Train". It was great. I had to just go and look it up and the description is as I remember it:

@Swede1952@universeodon.com my Grandmother brought me up with Westerns but I was surprised how well Gunsmoke and Bonanza held up when they were reshown on one of the repeat channels.

I know those! Watched them during early to mid seventieth. Bonanza with Lorne Greene and all the others was a family event on Sunday early evening!
😁😁
Later I realized James Arness was "The Thing" (from another world)! Got me nightmares after watching it with my brother at the age of 10-12

They are on somewhere. I can't quite get into Zoro and more but I've seen them running.
