I’ve been using #tutamail #Tuta for a while now. I’m almost happy with it. The only thing that I just cannot understand is the search function. It seems to be impossible to find anything in the inbox.
I’m new with Tuta and I might still change my email because of this. An email app without the option to search is of no use.
Does anybody else have similar experiences? Or is this a ”feature” of the free version? Or do I not get how to search? (It has never been a problem with any other service providers… Ok, Outlook is lousy but even that works better than this…)

@paija@mementomori.social I can't really see the appeal of Tuta (nor Proton mail). It's a centralized *non-standard* email app. If you want to enjoy its claimed privacy benefits, you and your correspondents are all stuck on Tuta, a single company. I recommend paying for a normal trustworthy email provider for normal email. You'll get to choose your email apps and features, like search, backup your emails at home etc. Thunderbird is a great email client.

For sensitive communications, use for example Signal, and/or manually encrypt files you send as email attachments and exchange passwords via another channel. I have my reservations about Signal but I believe it can be trusted pretty good unless you have a reason to believe that you might be a high priority target for major intelligence agencies.

@paija@mementomori.social As a concrete example of an alternative, I've been using Posteo myself: https://posteo.de/en/site/features

with Thunderbird:

Also, by becoming a member of
https://iki.fi/ you could keep your (iki.fi) email address always the same while switching email providers in the future.
