I got my SCA tunic finished yesterday, no thanks to Sibyl. It really was very simple, because they didn't have shaping at the time (that didn't really start to be invented till about the 11th century); you take two rectangles, sew them partway up the sides, hem the armholes, sew the shoulder/sleeve seams (shaping the neckline on the fly), and hem. I did cheat slightly for the neckline; at the time they'd have just done a narrow hem (facings are quite a modern invention), but I used cotton tape as a binding. It's not going to show, after all. And you wear a belt so it doesn't look like a sack.
Next job: my Simple Wimple.
