So...you're still on Facebook. And maybe Threads. Because all your old friends and family are there. And Meta's not so bad, right?
Meta is systematically suspending the accounts of people who tell the truth about what Israel is doing in Gaza. That it's a genocide.
So in what way are they less complicit than Israel? They're actively trying to hide the truth from the world of a genocide. They're like the anti-press. Suppressing information flow.
But y'know, you do you. Enjoy your Facebook, and your Insta, and your Threads account.
Surely they'll never censor anything else for a fascist government, right?
Right?
@oldladyplays@wargamers.social Cait, I write this knowing that you do listen. Your "you do you" bit reads a lot like passive aggressive judgement, and that stings. I am on Instagram, I have a minimal presence on FB. And I have no love for Meta - they are complicit in all manner of evil.
But I also see at least as much information about Gaza from my Instagram friends as I see on here. I see information about ICE that never makes it here. And further, I see community organizing on Insta, which I don't see here - perhaps that's because a number of my Insta folks are local. I'm sure they are censoring and silencing some of it, but a lot gets through, and we are a loud voice in a place where many people will hear us.
So when you say "enjoy your ... Insta" you're talking about a community. There's nuance, it's not absolutes. We exist - as artists, strippers, sex workers, circus athletes, trans people - in the face of Meta, just as we do in the face of the rest of the world, screaming our grievances and connecting with each other, and yes, sharing our joys as well as our anger, because this is a life we're living, and hoping maybe to change the world for the better.
