Rant incoming. I’m frustrated. I’ve got a student I’ve been mentoring for a few years at this point. Bright guy. Completely rebuilt his CCDC team from the ground up into a winning team again. Solid student. Leads the school’s CTF team. And he’s working on his OSCP now (the crazy fucker paid out of pocket for it).
He just wrapped up his 3rd internship. 2nd with the same company. A medium sized financial services firm. He didn’t end up with a return offer saying his ego is too big so he wouldn’t be a culture fit.
I’ve known this guy for a while, and I haven’t seen him have any sort of inflated ego at all, so this surprised me. After he asked why, apparently it’s because the financial services company’s consulting wing thinks that he’s not ready for the OSCP because he doesn’t have enough time in the industry to take that exam.
He’s taken it once already. Yeah he failed it but most do their first time. He failed it but he did well! Better than I did when I first took it! He’s studying up on weak areas but wants to take it again this fall. Im sure he’s gonna pass the second time.
But like, seriously? Not giving the guy a return offer? Because taking the OSCP as a student means you have an ego problem? Are you joking?
