Folks! I would LOVE to put pics in a book and do a short run. Hell, I work in a frickin print shop with a bindery. It would be the easiest thing...
However I do the meme thing. the grey area (or perhaps black, depending) where I frankly steal photos online with google images and screw with them.
Some of my core images β and I think the best ones all up β are entirely my own work. But there's probably only a few dozen of those. fifty, tops. (1/2)
Now, shitposting with someone's eBay photos posted online is one thing. Free reign I say! Printing in a book? I figure that's more likely to cross a line that'll make SOMEONE angry and it'd only take one person (validly) looking for compensation for a pic to bring my life undone.
Maybe it's fair use, likely not completely so, but the way to find out could be life alteringly expensive.
@NanoRaptor@bitbang.social I think there's a decent chance you could Get Away With It but the risk is definitely significant
@NanoRaptor@bitbang.social Can you work out a provisional list of contents? Then identify ones where copyright on the basic images is iffy, and try to get original copyright-free base images of the same subject matter? If necessary, ask your fansβcrowdsourced images with a copyright waiver from the photographer would be fine as a basis for your work.
Time-consuming, I know, but I figure if you aim for 72 images you're already two thirds of the way there.
(I do not do picture books! I write novels.)
@cstross@wandering.shop I've considered that. If nothing else I could separate out clean posts that could go in as-is, ones that could be modified with a bit of fiddling, and then ones that rely on some oddity of the original that might be hard to duplicate. Perhaps I'll find more than I expect that are just peachy.
With a full-page picture, and the text next to it for ~72 images and some intro could be a 150+ page book. For a coffee table volume that'd probably do.

High quality prints of especially noteworthy creations perhaps?
The Johnathan comes to mind immediately as a glimpse of an alternative timeline that we didn't takes, but that someone probably did π
