We do have a huge problem with loneliness. Social media has been a huge part of that. AI systems do have the potential to help with this, but they also have a large potential for harm. And a lot of it comes from opportunity costs (using chatbots for companionship means not developing social skills and building real relationships). May provide short-term comfort, but there's serious concern about long-term harms. – Gary Marcus #BHUSA #LivePost
