I just got my printer to work under GutenPrint on Ubuntu. It's an Epson ET 2800 which Gutenprint didn't have a PPD file for. Printer Setup choose Adobe/Postscript2 then use the updated file in /etc/cups/ppd giving it chmod 0555 permissions. Gutenprint documentation gives the details. Finally pro prints. It doesn't fix my camera work though.
