Ron Deibert is absolutely the voice that the infosec industry needs to be listening right now. We are in a moment where fascism is consolidating power and most of the infosec industry is either playing along or is busy bragging about how much AI they've shoved into their products.

@evacide@hachyderm.io "descent into a kind of fusion of tech and fascism"
I'm really glad he's talking about it. Someone with a history degree needs to throw an editor's eye onto that speech before he makes it; abuse of tech is fascist. It's one of the key things that sets fascism apart from simple authoritarianism.
Mussolini couldn't control the Italian people as well as he did without the fact that he realized he could replace the people who ran the radio network with his own people.
(I need people in tech to realize, like the nuclear physicists did after the '40s, that harm potential is inextricable from our talent space. We're working in a space where there are people who are hungry to use our creations to deprive other human beings of their freedoms. We should be making our decisions accordingly).
