Not to exonerate lack of #environmental #consciousness in the U.S., but I find dearth of #protest in #Canada unacceptable we're choking from #wildfire #smoke in #Brooklyn! What is the thinking in #Toronto, #Quebec and #Montreal, #wildfires are far away so this doesn't matter? #Climate #climatechange

Waterβs awayβ: How Canadian helicopters and waterbombers are helping tame L.A. fires

Here for the well deserved ratio. Carry on.
@Nikolas@federated.press unacceptable?! Iβm sorry but I find your obtuseness regarding a multifaceted global issue unacceptable. Half of the problem is your countries political export of right wing individualism and overarching economic policies.
We cannot control control the wildfires. They are global climate events. While we try to choose sound environmental policies thereβs a lot working against us and a lot of it is exacerbated by your countries industry and politics.
@TWDickson@mastodon.social This is the third time today I'm getting this type of response please read the opening line of my post
@Nikolas@federated.press I donβt think that opening line is doing the lifting you think it does. Youβre openly criticizing our entire country because of wildfire smoke that we as a country canβt control. The only way to stop this is the global community backs off carbon and we work on decreasing the global average temperature.
@TWDickson@mastodon.social I'm not a #nationalist of any stripe, and you are defensive. #Canada is hardly a victim: despite its low population, the country is one of the top historic emitters. Under the circumstances, while I am choking, it would be assuring to see at least tiny token #protests. Please send links of any protests in #Toronto, #Montreal or #Quebec, if this is somehow being under reported.
@Nikolas@federated.press @TWDickson@mastodon.social
What, exactly, would you like Canadians to protest against?
Global greenhouse gas emissions which cause climate change, which has created the conditions for unprecedented wildfire levels? Greenhouse gasses of which the United States is a primary emitter?
Or perhaps you would like us to protest against the fossil fuel corporations which are pulling more and more oil from the Tar Sands, largely so the Albertan govt can sell it to the USA? Corporations, may I remind you, which are often headquartered in your country?
We cannot control the wildfires. We are doing our best to keep them away from human population centres and sometimes failing.
Nor can we address the root causes of the wildfire because Canada is not a superpower on the global stage and whatever we do about climate change is dwarfed b6 the elephant to the south (who has officially chosen denial as policy).
Americans' desire to blame Canadians for the air quality problems you are facing makes you look even more foolish.
